News from Sandy Howley and Gracy:

Lots of field success this year for "Gracy", and me; It's SR Banquo's Strikes Our Fancy JH WC CGC now. She got her WC in the spring, and ran Junior Hunter and Started Retriever tests through the summer, getting both titles by summer's end. It's on to handling yardwork and multiple marks field training as we look forward to "the next levels"!

9/21 - 9/22/02 At the Hyattsville and Southern Maryland DTA obedience trials:
"Tink" earned her first two legs towards her Companion Dog title. Tink scored a 181 on Saturday and a 189 on Sunday placing thirds and second in Novice A respectively. Tink was whelped on 08 March 2001 - not too bad for an 18 month old puppy. Tink is co-owned by Peter Alea and Al Jenkins. Peter a novice to the obedience ring and flat-coats has done a great job training and handling Tink.

10/26/02 At the Middleburg Kennel Club Show in VA:
Claymore's Tinker Bell CD CGC, "Tink", , completed her third leg in Novice Obedience to earn the CD title. Tink is a Katie (Al Jenkins) & Cosmo (Melody Daniels) puppy.

  9/21 - 9/22/02 At the Shenandoah Valley Hunting Retriever Club tests:

"Katie", CH WR Lyric's Kay CD SH WCX CGC TDI, earned her first and second legs towards her Master Hunting Retriever title with NAHRA. Both stakes were run cleanly and this was also the first time she's run in multi-day stakes. Katie is owned, trained (excluding a tune up at 78 months and some preventative maintenance at 86 months by Kass Goulding), and handled by Al Jenkins.

  On 8/10/02, at the Westmoreland County Obedience Club Agility Trial test in Delmont, PA:

"Ravin", Ch SR Lyric Queen Of The Mountain CDX JH NA NAJ WCX CGC Can CD WC, owned by Dawn Buttion and Marty Archambeault and handled by Dawn, qualified in Novice Jumpers to complete his Novice Jumpers agility title! "Piper", Ch Blazin's Enchanted Forest CGC, also qualified in Novice Jumpers picking up her 1st leg!

  Lindsay and Sadie finished their CDX at York KC and Lackawanna KC, respectively :

"Lindsay" is now CH Char-Will's Witchy Woman CDX JH OA NAJ WC, and "Sadie" is now CH Char-Will's Cappuccino Commotion CDX JH NA OAJ WC. Both Sadie & Lindsay are owned and handled by Barb Sholtis.

  News from Gillian Impey:

"Wags", AM/CAN CH Quillquest Wendy's Wagtail AM SH WCX CAN SH WCI qualified for her WCX 2 times in Canada ,once in Calgary following the Specialty , and then again last week-end in Maxville [near Ottawa.]

Ubi qualified at the same tests obtaining her WCI title in Calgary and Ottawa. She is now CH SR Quillquest Xuberance AM CAN CDX JH AM WC CAN WCI
Both dogs are owned, bred and handled by Gillian Impey.

  7/5/02:

"Zorro", CH Exotic Zorro's Mark, owned by Fred and Cyndy Gumbinner, earned his championship.

"Deion", CH. Twin Oaks Primetime, owned and handled by Kathi Leonhardt, was BOB under Judge Lt. Col. Charles Ruppert.

  At the Fourth of July cluster at Howard County, MD:

"Abby", Shasta Meant For Streett's End finished her CD obedience title. Not bad for a black dog in that heat! Abby is owned by Deb Brady and Richard Streett.

  "Raven", Ch Darktarn Neptune's Raven, is on the campaign trail this year, handled by Karen Bryant!

Raven has numerous BOB wins including: 4/20 at Old Dominion Kennel Club, 5/18 at Mattapponi Kennel Club, 5/24 at Va.Beach Kennel Club, 5/25 at Langley Kennel Club, 5/27 at Tidewater Kennel Club, 5/31 at Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Assoc., 6/1 at Huntington Valley KC. He is owned by Jane Brumley & Marion Butsavage.

  6/8/02 At the MidWest Flat Coated Retriever Club supported entry in Wheaton, Ill:

"Simon", Ch Rainbow's Autumn Classic, owned by Erica Wallace & John Evenson won Best of Breed and went on for a Group 2!

  At the Mid Atlantic Flat Coated Retriever Club WC/X test in May:

"Lindsay", CH Char-Will's Witchy Woman CD JH OA NAJ WC, and "Sadie", CH Char-Will's Cappuccino Commotion CD JH NA OAJ WC earned their WC. As well, Lindsay earned her 2nd CDX leg in May at the Berks Dog Training Obedience Trial. Sadie earned her 2nd CDX leg in Dec. at the Delaware Water Gap show in Bethlehem. Both Sadie & Lindsay are owned and handled by Barb Sholtis.

  5/4-5/5/02 At the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club Hunt Tests at the Sagulla Hunting Preserve in Jackson Center, PA:

CH Allegro's Free Man in Paris JH WCX, "Beau", qualified in back-to-back Senior Hunter tests. These were Beau's first senior tests, and we were thrilled with his performance. Beau is owned by Mark and Linda Reynolds and was handled by Linda.

  Kathi Leonhardt and Jordan have had a most exciting Spring!

Starting at the CRFCRC Spring Fun Match, "Jordan", Ch SR Hallbent Most Happy Fella CGC, passed his CGC under the supervision of Richard Streett.

On May 4th, he got his first Junior Hunter leg at the LRCP hunt test at Cheltenham. The following weekend, May 11th and 12th, he did the NAHRA Quad tests and passed all four receiving his Started Retriever title! He's been a very busy boy! Jordan is handled, owned and loved by Kathi Leonhardt.

  4/28/02 At the Beckley West Virginia KC show in Beckley, WV:

Ch Blazin's Carpe Diem CDX SH WCX HOF, "Dino", finished his Open obedience title, making the long drive worthwhile. Dino is owned by Scott and Tina Borden, handled by Scott.

CH TLC & Shalyn's Rhythm O' The Island CGC, "Reggae", finished her AKC Championship by taking a three point major, going Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite at the Old Dominion KC show on April 20, 2002 in Leesburg, Virginia. She was bumped up to the Best Of Breed competition the following weekend, April 27, and 28th, 2002 at the Chesapeake KC shows in Chesapeake, Virginia and took Best of Opposite Sex both days. Reggae completed her AKC Canine Good Citizenship title on Tuesday, April 22, 2002. Reggae is owned, loved and handled by Sherri Lilley.

  4/15-4/21/02 At the Greater Fredericksburg, Catoctin & Baltimore County KC shows:

Dawn Buttion and the Blazin flatcoats had a very good week!

"This year I decided to play hooky from work and experience the Cherry Blossom Circuit. I showed 5 days, 2 different dogs and won 4 BOBs plus two cuts in the group.
"Dino", Ch Blazin's Carpe Diem CD SH WCX HOF, won the breed at both Greater Fredericksburgs shows and the Baltimore County KC show and made the cut the last day.
"Cricket", Ch Blazin's Evening Star CGC, won breed at the Catoctin KC show and made a cut in the group. This was Cricket's 1st time entered as a special!!
Not to be outdone by her relatives, "Prue", Blazin's Eternal Flame, picked up her 2nd CD leg at the Baltimore County KC show. Prue is trained and handled by her good pal Marty (Archambeault)!!"

  4/11/02 - 4/14/02 At the Dauphin Dog Training Club Agility Trial in Harrisburg, PA:

"Zu", Ch Victory's Bravo Zulu CD JH AX AXJ WCX, placed third in his Excellent A JWW class on April 11th, finishing his AXJ title. He earned two more qualifying legs on April 12th and 14th, one in JWW, one in Standard. Zu is owned by Chris and Kate Hutchinson, trained and handled by Kate.

  4/7/02 At the Capital Dog Training Club trial in Westminster, MD:

"Vita", CH Blazin's Doppelbock CDX JH NA WCX, owned by Scott and Tina Borden and handled by Tina, qualified in Novice Standard to complete his Novice agility title.

  News from Joan Benson and Quest:

On Saturday April 6, Quest, Skywalker Galaxy Quest was in his first Hunt Test. He performed very nicely and earned his first Junior Hunter leg. He was handled by his owner, Joan Bensen.

On Sunday, March 24 in Raleigh, N.C., Quest won Winners Dog and Best of Winners for his first major. He was handled by owner, Joan Bensen.

  4/6/02 At the Shenandoah Valley Working Retriever Club's NAHRA test:

"Tanner", WR Light-Foot's Eclipse CD SH WCX FDX , owned by John and Sandy Bulger and handled by John, completed his Working Retriever title. John Bulger's " Brook", SR Bertschire's Avalanche JH WC, received 2 legs towards her Working Retriever title.

At the same event, "Valley" , SR Allegro's Free Valley Sunrise, owned and Handled by Penny Woodward, received her NAHRA Started Retriever Title. Special thanks to Al Jenkins who helped judge at this event. Whooo Hoo!

  3/23/02 At the Raleigh Kennel Club show in Raleigh, NC:

Reggie, Quillquest Ghillie's Gundog was WD & BOW for a 3 point major. This was out of the 6-9 month puppy class! It was great that his breeder, Gillian Impey, was there to see him get his first points. Reggie is handled by Faith Quade. He is owned by Jane Brumley

Raven, Ch Darktarn Neptune's Raven was BOB. He is owned by M. Butsavage & Jane Brumley. He was handled by Karen Bryant.

  Sherri Lilley and Reggae, TLC & Shalyn's Rhythm o t Island, had an awesome March!

Reggae earned her first started hunting retriever leg on March 3, 2002 in Tappahannock, Virginia at the Three Rivers Retriever Club NAHRA (North American Hunting Ret Assoc) licensed hunt test. Reggae earned her second started hunting retriever leg on March 16, 2002 in Culpepper, Virginia at the Virginia Retriever Assoc NAHRA licensed hunt test.

Reggae also took Best in Sweepstakes on March 9, 2002 at the supported Flat coat entry at the Maryland Sporting Dog Assoc show in Salisbury, Maryland. The next day on March 10 at the Maryland Sporting Dog Show she took a five point major taking Winners Bitch and Best of Winners.

Reggae took Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite on March 20, 2002 at the Carolina Kennel Club show in Raleigh, North Carolina. On March 22, 2002 she took Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite at the Durham Kennel Club show and on March 23, 2002 took Reserve Winners Bitch. These were her first shows coming out of the puppy classes and showing in Open.

  3/17/02 At the Virginia Retriever Association tests in Culpeper, VA:

"Katie" CH WR Lyric's Kay CD SH WCX CGC TDI, handled by Al Jenkins, earned her fourth WR leg. The high temperature was 38 degrees F and the near-constant rain made it a perfect environment for a simulated duck hunt. 20 dogs ran, 18 passed the land double, trail, and quarter test, 14 qualified.

  3/17/02 At the Dog Owners Training Club trial in West Friendship, MD:

"Vita", CH Blazin's Doppelbock CDX JH WCX, owned by Scott and Tina Borden and handled by Tina, qualified in Open A to complete his CDX Obedience title. Vita surprised us all by earning his CDX in 3 straight trials!

  3/16 - 3/17/02 At the Danville Kennel Club Agility Trial in Berryville, VA:

"Zu", Ch Victory's Bravo Zulu CD JH AX OAJ WCX, received First Place in Excellent B Standard on Saturday, March 16th and earned another First Place in JWW Excellent A class on Sunday, March 17th. Zu is owned by Chris and Kate Hutchinson, trained and handled by Kate.

  3/9 - 3/10/02 At the Maryland Sporting Dog Club shows in Salisbury, MD:

CRFCRC Club members showed some fine flatcoats and took home many ribbons and trophies. See the results!

  3/2/02 At the American Temperament Test Society test in Hampton, VA:

"Cosmo" passed the Temperament Test with flying colors. The ATTS is a 25 year old, non-profit organization that takes into account each breed's Standard when evaluating temperament.
